Copper alloy with 0.5-11% tin and 0.01-0.35% phosphorus, highly fatigue resistant.

Core Principles & Analysis

• Phosphorus is added as a deoxidizer during casting, and the small residual fraction increases stiffness and wear resistance.
• Outstanding fatigue endurance combined with good conductivity makes it standard for electrical connectors, contact springs, and bearings.
• Acoustic guitar strings are commonly wound with 92/8 phosphor bronze, a formulation popularized in the 1970s for its warm, bright tone.
