High-carbon, high-chromium air-hardening tool steel with high wear resistance.

D2 contains about 1.5% carbon and 12% chromium, which form hard chromium carbides responsible for its exceptional wear resistance.
It hardens to around 62 HRC by air cooling from about 1,010 °C, avoiding the distortion caused by oil or water quenching.
Its near-stainless chromium content earns it the label semi-stainless, and it is a classic choice for blanking dies, punches, and shear blades.
