Up Quark

Lightest of all quarks, fundamental constituent of protons and neutrons.

Core Principles & Analysis

• Proposed by Murray Gell-Mann and George Zweig in the 1964 quark model.
• Carries an electric charge of +2/3 e.
• Deep inelastic scattering at SLAC in 1968 gave the first direct evidence for quarks inside protons.
