Parietal Cortex
The lobe of the cerebral cortex primarily involved in processing sensory information (touch, temperature, pain, pressure), spatial awareness, navigation, and integrating sensory input from various modalities.
Key Functions:
- Processes somatosensory information (touch, temperature, pain).
- Involved in spatial awareness and navigation.
- Integrates sensory information from different modalities.
- Plays a role in attention and numerical cognition.
Interacting Systems & Components:
- Cerebral Cortex (one of the four major lobes)
- Primary Somatosensory Area (located within)
- Thalamus (receives sensory input from)
- Frontal Cortex (interacts with for motor planning)
