A minor vitamin-E vitamer (5,8-dimethyl tocol) present in small amounts in wheat and some vegetable oils. Lipid-phase chain-breaking antioxidant; like the non-α vitamers it is preferentially metabolised rather than retained because the hepatic α-tocopherol transfer protein binds it weakly.
