Red Nucleus
A large nucleus located in the midbrain tegmentum, primarily involved in motor coordination, particularly of the upper limbs, and part of the rubrospinal tract.
Key Functions:
- Contributes to motor coordination, especially arm and shoulder movements.
- Origin of the rubrospinal tract, involved in regulating muscle tone and posture.
- Receives input from the cerebellum and cerebral cortex.
Interacting Systems & Components:
- Midbrain (located in)
- Cerebellum (receives input from, specifically interposed nucleus)
- Cerebral Cortex (receives input from)
- Spinal Cord (projects to via rubrospinal tract)
- Motor Control (involved in)
