Pulvinar
The largest nucleus in the thalamus, located posteriorly, involved in visual processing, attention, and integrating multisensory information, especially for saliency detection.
Key Functions:
- Integrates multisensory information (visual, auditory, somatosensory).
- Involved in visual attention and eye movements.
- Plays a role in salience detection and filtering irrelevant information.
- Connects extensively with the association cortices.
Interacting Systems & Components:
- Thalamus (part of)
- Occipital Cortex, Parietal Cortex, Temporal Cortex (connects to)
- Attention (involved in)
- Visual Processing (important for higher-order)
