Primary Motor Area (M1)

A region in the frontal lobe, specifically the precentral gyrus, responsible for initiating and controlling voluntary movements.

Key Functions:

• Generates neural impulses that control voluntary muscle movements.
• Arranged somatotopically (motor homunculus).
• Receives input from other motor areas (premotor cortex, supplementary motor cortex) and the thalamus.
