C12:0 medium/long-chain saturated fatty acid making up roughly half of coconut and palm-kernel oil. Partly metabolised like an MCT (portal transport) but also raises both LDL and HDL cholesterol; its monoglyceride (monolaurin) has antimicrobial activity.
