C17:0 odd-chain saturated fatty acid (margaric acid) derived from ruminant fat and partly from gut-microbial synthesis. Like pentadecanoic acid it serves as a plasma biomarker of dairy/ruminant fat intake and is inversely associated with cardiometabolic risk in cohort studies.
