Kupffer Cell
Specialized macrophages located in the sinusoids of the liver, acting as resident immune cells that phagocytose pathogens, cellular debris, and old red blood cells.
Key Functions:
- Phagocytoses bacteria, toxins, and cellular debris from portal blood.
- Removes old or damaged erythrocytes.
- Acts as a key immune surveillance cell in the liver.
