Reticular Formation
A diffuse network of neurons located throughout the brainstem, involved in regulating consciousness, sleep-wake cycles, arousal, attention, and various vital functions.
Key Functions:
- Regulates arousal and consciousness.
- Controls sleep-wake cycles (part of Reticular Activating System).
- Modulates pain perception.
- Involved in control of breathing, heart rate, and posture.
