Pyrimidine nucleoside — salvaged by uridine-cytidine kinase (UCK1/2) to UMP, then UDP / UTP. Crosses BBB via ENT1/2. Incorporated into phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine via the Kennedy pathway; proposed membrane-phospholipid-turnover mechanism behind mood / cognitive effects in small RCTs. Often stacked with DHA + choline ('MIND' formulation in Alzheimer's research).
Dosing Guidelines
PO: Typical 267 mg (Range: 150–500 mg)
SL: Typical 267 mg (Range: 150–500 mg)
Target Organ Systems
nervous
Interactions
CDP-choline (synergistic): Both feed the Kennedy pathway for phospholipid synthesis.
UMP (synergistic): UMP dephosphorylates to uridine in the gut — same downstream effect.
