Stratum Basale Cell

The deepest layer of the epidermis, composed of a single layer of cuboidal or columnar epithelial cells (basal cells) that are continuously dividing and responsible for regenerating the epidermis.

Key Functions:

• Undergoes continuous cell division to produce new keratinocytes.
• Anchors the epidermis to the underlying dermis.
• Contains melanocytes and Merkel cells.
