K Cell
A type of enteroendocrine cell found in the mucosa of the small intestine, primarily responsible for secreting glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP).
Key Functions:
- Secretes glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP).
- Stimulates insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells in response to glucose.
- Plays a role in the incretin effect, enhancing glucose-stimulated insulin release.
Interacting Systems & Components:
- Enteroendocrine Cell (type of)
- Small Intestine (located in)
- Glucose-dependent Insulinotropic Polypeptide (GIP) (secretes)
- Beta Cell (Pancreatic Islet) (stimulates)
- Endocrine System (component of)
