Juxtaglomerular Cell
Specialized smooth muscle cells in the afferent arteriole of the kidney, responsible for synthesizing, storing, and secreting renin.
Key Functions:
- Secretes renin in response to decreased blood pressure or sodium levels.
- Part of the juxtaglomerular apparatus.
- Plays a crucial role in regulating blood pressure and fluid balance via the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.
Interacting Systems & Components:
- Kidney (located in)
- Renin (secretes)
- Macula Densa (part of juxtaglomerular apparatus with)
- Circulatory System (regulates blood pressure)
