Giulio Natta first produced stereoregular isotactic polypropylene in 1954, work honored by the 1963 Nobel Prize in Chemistry shared with Karl Ziegler.
At about 0.905 g/cm³ it is the least dense major commodity plastic and floats on water.
Its fatigue resistance lets one-piece molded living hinges on flip-top caps survive millions of open-close cycles without cracking.
