Chain molecular weights of 3.5-7.5 million g/mol mean the melt barely flows, so stock is compression molded or ram extruded, then machined.
Gel-spun UHMWPE fibers such as Dyneema and Spectra are up to 15 times stronger than steel by weight and light enough to float.
Radiation-crosslinked UHMWPE is the bearing surface articulating against the metal or ceramic head in most hip and knee replacements.
