Moscovium is a synthetic chemical element named after the Moscow Oblast region.

Moscovium was first produced in 2003 by the Dubna-Livermore collaboration, which bombarded americium-243 with calcium-48 ions and announced the results in February 2004.
It was named in 2016 for the Moscow region, home of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna where it was discovered.
Its isotopes live under a second, with moscovium-290 lasting roughly 0.7 seconds, but its alpha-decay chains are the main practical source of nihonium and of long-lived dubnium-268 for chemistry.
