Ergativity

An alignment where the subject of "sleep" patterns with the object of "hit", not its agent.

Ergative-absolutive languages group intransitive subjects with transitive objects, mirror-image to English.
Basque and many Australian and Caucasian languages are ergative.
Hindi is split-ergative: the pattern surfaces only in perfective clauses.
