A parasympathetic nucleus in the medulla oblongata that provides efferent innervation to most of the internal organs below the neck via the vagus nerve.
Key Functions:
- Provides parasympathetic innervation to most visceral organs (heart, lungs, digestive tract).
- Regulates functions like heart rate, breathing, and digestion.
- Part of the vagal efferent pathway.
