Chylomicrons
Transports dietary triglycerides and cholesterol from the small intestine to peripheral tissues and the liver, representing the largest and least dense lipoproteins.
Key Functions:
- Deliver absorbed dietary fats to various tissues.
- Key in post-prandial lipid metabolism.
Interacting Systems & Components:
- Small Intestine (formed in)
- Triacylglycerol (primary cargo)
- Cholesterol (also carries)
- Liver (remnants taken up by)
- Lipoprotein Lipase (hydrolyzes triglycerides)
