Synthetic analog of human islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP/amylin), with Pro substitutions at residues 25, 28, 29 to prevent the β-sheet aggregation that plagues native human amylin (but not rat amylin). Co-secreted physiologically with insulin. Activates AMY receptors (CT-R + RAMP1/2/3) in area postrema / brainstem → slowed gastric emptying, post-meal glucagon suppression, central satiety. Used as mealtime adjunct to insulin in T1D and insulin-treated T2D to flatten postprandial glucose and reduce meal-time insulin needs. Injected at separate SC site from insulin.
