Nicotinamide Riboside

Category: nucleoside

Aliases: NR, Niagen, nad-precursor-nr, nr

Pharmacological Mechanism

NAD⁺ precursor — enters cells via ENT transporters, phosphorylated to NMN by NRK1/2, then adenylated to NAD⁺ by NMNAT. Smaller than NMN (no phosphate) so better cell entry. Raises whole-blood NAD⁺ ~40–60% at 300 mg/d in published RCTs.
