Magnesium Malate

Category: mineral

Aliases: Mg malate, Magnesium hydrogen malate

Pharmacological Mechanism

Mg²⁺ chelated to malic acid, a TCA-cycle intermediate. Standard oral F in the organic-Mg-salt range (~30–40%, similar to citrate and glycinate). The malate moiety itself has been proposed to support mitochondrial ATP production at the cytosolic shuttle (aspartate-malate shuttle); this is the mechanistic rationale behind Russell's 'Super Malic' fibromyalgia protocol, which showed pain reductions at the higher 600 mg / 2400 mg dose in a small crossover pilot. Much lower laxative effect than citrate.
