Cells responsible for forming tooth enamel, producing and secreting enamel proteins that mineralize to create the hardest substance in the human body.
Key Functions:
- Secretes enamel matrix proteins (amelogenin, enamelin).
- Controls the mineralization of enamel.
- Undergoes apoptosis after enamel formation is complete.
Interacting Systems & Components:
- Tooth (forms enamel of)
- Enamel (produces)
- Digestive System (part of)
