Northern constellation of sacrificed hair, facing the north galactic pole.
Core Principles & Analysis
It is the only constellation named after a real historical person: Queen Berenice II of Egypt, who dedicated her hair for her husband's safe return from war.
It faces the north galactic pole, so telescopes looking here see deep into intergalactic space, including the rich Coma Cluster of galaxies.
Ptolemy counted its stars among the lion's tail; Tycho Brahe first listed it as a constellation in 1602.
