Centaurus (The Centaur)

Southern giant holding the nearest star system, the largest globular cluster, and a nearby radio galaxy.

Core Principles & Analysis

• Alpha Centauri is the nearest star system; its member Proxima, 4.24 light-years away, is the closest star to the Sun.
• Proxima hosts a roughly Earth-mass planet in its habitable zone, announced in 2016.
• Omega Centauri, the Milky Way’s largest globular cluster, holds around ten million stars.
