A conformal anomaly — also called scale anomaly, trace anomaly, or Weyl anomaly — is an anomaly: a quantum phenomenon that breaks the conformal symmetry of the classical theory.
Setting Planck's constant to zero leaves only Feynman tree diagrams, a 'classical' theory; quantum corrections generate the anomaly.
Its coefficient is the central charge that characterizes conformal field theories.
