A field with a finite number of elements; its order is either a prime number or a prime power.
Called Galois fields after Évariste Galois, written GF(q).
For every prime p and positive integer k there exist fields of order p^k — the finite fields of a given order are unique up to isomorphism, the basis of Galois theory over finite fields.
