Putamen

A large, round structure forming the lateral part of the striatum within the basal ganglia, involved in regulating movement and learning.

Key Functions:

• Involved in motor control and motor learning.
• Plays a role in habit formation.
• Receives input from the cerebral cortex and projects to the globus pallidus.
