A significant part of the limbic system, forming a curved fold on the inner surface of each cerebral hemisphere, involved in emotion, learning, memory, and executive function.

• Processes emotion and pain.
• Involved in learning, memory, and decision-making.
• Contributes to attention and cognitive control.
• Divided into anterior (ACC) and posterior (PCC) parts with distinct functions.
