Pharmacological Mechanism
Centrally-acting α2-adrenergic agonist — reduces presynaptic excitatory neurotransmitter release in spinal cord interneurons → less muscle tone. Used for spasticity. CYP1A2 substrate — ciprofloxacin / fluvoxamine + tizanidine = severe hypotension (boxed warning).
