Polyamine essential for autophagy induction (inhibits EP300 acetyltransferase → activates autophagy genes) and hypusination of eIF5A (translation-elongation factor critical for polyamine-dependent protein synthesis). Epidemiologic data associates higher dietary spermidine with reduced all-cause mortality. Cellular levels decline with age.
