Selective MAO-B inhibitor at low oral doses (5–10 mg) → preserves dopamine (MAO-B substrate) without the tyramine interaction of non-selective MAOIs. Metabolises to L-methamphetamine + L-amphetamine (active metabolites). Used as Parkinson's adjunct to reduce on/off fluctuations. Transdermal patch at ≥9 mg loses MAO-B selectivity → requires tyramine-free diet.
