Rosavin

Category: adaptogen

Aliases: Rosavin glycoside

Pharmacological Mechanism

Cinnamyl-alcohol glycoside unique to Rhodiola rosea — rosavin, rosin, and rosarin are the three 'rosavins' used as species-authentication markers, absent from other Rhodiola species. Mechanistically, rosavin appears to be a minor direct contributor to Rhodiola's adaptogenic activity relative to salidroside, though it may act synergistically — extracts standardised to rosavins alone are less effective than those standardised to both. Rapid rodent PK: Cmax ~0.4 µg/mL at 0.3 h, t½ ~1 h, absolute bioavailability ~29% (Chen 2016). No published human PK. Likely deglycosylated by gut flora to cinnamyl alcohol + glucose.
