Pharmacological Mechanism

Active glucocorticoid — prednisone is reduced to prednisolone by hepatic 11β-HSD1. Direct prednisolone use bypasses the activation step (preferred in liver dysfunction). ~4× cortisol potency. Same indications + adverse effect profile as prednisone.
