Pharmacological Mechanism

Phenyl analog of GABA — crosses BBB. Primarily GABA-B agonist (baclofen-like) with weaker GABA-A activity. Voltage-gated Ca²⁺ channel inhibition at high doses. Produces anxiolysis + euphoria; serious dependence + withdrawal syndrome on chronic use (psychiatric-hospitalisation-level in case reports).
