17α-methylated DHT-derived oral anabolic-androgenic steroid; potent for mass and red-cell production (clinically used for anemia). Strongly estrogenic in effect despite not aromatizing (direct estrogen-receptor activity). The 17α-alkylation enables oral dosing but confers marked hepatotoxicity (cholestasis, raised LFTs).
