Intermediate-acting benzodiazepine — direct glucuronidation (no oxidation) makes it the preferred benzodiazepine in elderly and hepatic impairment. Active metabolite of diazepam. Slower onset limits acute-anxiety use; better fit for sustained anxiolysis.
