Pharmacological Mechanism

Broad-spectrum antiparasitic + antiviral — interferes with pyruvate:ferredoxin oxidoreductase (PFOR) electron transfer in anaerobic protozoa. Approved for cryptosporidiosis + giardiasis; off-label for rotavirus and other viruses with mixed evidence.
