Pharmacological Mechanism

17α-methylated oral testosterone — methyl group resists hepatic first-pass metabolism. Hepatotoxic at chronic use (cholestasis, hepatocellular adenoma, peliosis hepatis) → largely replaced by testosterone esters (IM) for hypogonadism. Schedule III.
