Pharmacological Mechanism

Synthetic progestin (17α-hydroxyprogesterone derivative). Agonizes the progesterone receptor; suppresses pituitary LH/FSH to inhibit ovulation, thickens cervical mucus, transforms endometrium. Oral (HRT/amenorrhea/oncology) + IM depot (q3-month contraception).
