Pharmacological Mechanism

Angiotensin II AT1 receptor blocker — first ARB approved. Active E-3174 metabolite (via CYP2C9) drives most of the antihypertensive effect. Renally protective in diabetic nephropathy. No bradykinin-cough; useful where ACEi caused intolerance.
