C-terminal cleavage product of hCAP-18, the only human cathelicidin. Amphipathic α-helix that disrupts bacterial membranes directly (especially Gram-negative). Also drives macrophage / neutrophil chemotaxis, P2X7 activation, and DNA-sensing via TLR9. Vitamin D3 is the primary transcription inducer of CAMP (link between vit-D status and innate immunity).
