Selectively and reversibly inhibits aromatase (CYP19A1), the rate-limiting enzyme converting testosterone to estradiol and androstenedione to estrone. Reduces circulating estradiol by >95% in postmenopausal women. Does not affect cortisol or aldosterone synthesis at therapeutic doses.
