Hydrochlorothiazide
Category: pharmacological
Aliases: HCTZ
Pharmacological Mechanism
Thiazide diuretic — inhibits Na+/Cl- cotransporter (NCC) in distal convoluted tubule of the kidney. First-line antihypertensive; mild Ca²⁺ retention reduces osteoporotic fractures vs loop diuretics. Hypokalemia + hyponatremia + hyperuricemia common.
