Hericenone-class meroterpenoid from the Hericium erinaceus fruiting body. Promotes NGF synthesis in cultured astrocytes (Kawagishi 1991+). The fruiting-body fraction (vs. erinacines in mycelium) is the dominant source of nootropic activity.
