Pharmacological Mechanism

Synthetic decapeptide GnRH/LHRH agonist. Continuous depot exposure first causes a transient gonadotropin/sex-steroid surge ("flare"), then desensitizes pituitary GnRH receptors → castrate-level testosterone (men) or estradiol (women). Prostate/breast cancer, endometriosis.
