Protopanaxadiol-class ginsenoside with one sugar at C3; produced by steaming raw ginseng (red ginseng contains ~5–10× more Rg3 than white ginseng via partial dehydration of Rb1/Rb2/Rc). 20(S)-Rg3 is the clinically-studied stereoisomer. Primary research interest is anti-angiogenic / anti-metastatic oncology activity — inhibits VEGF signalling, matrix metalloproteinases, and EMT. Zhao 2016 Phase-I in healthy Chinese volunteers characterised single- and multi-dose PK: dose-proportional kinetics, t½ ~25 h, no accumulation on chronic dosing. Approved as Shenyi capsule adjuvant in China for NSCLC and hepatocellular carcinoma.
